How to Keep your Bedroom Organized
Bedrooms are supposed to be personal havens that you not only rest and rejuvenate yourselves in, but can retreat to when needed for some reflection time or simply a well earned break, whether you are young or old.
Here’s some tips to keep this as the number one priority in your mind so that you maximize this special space in your home.
Does your bedroom look like a train wreck?
Too often bedrooms look like junk yards, having become one-stop piling of stuff drop off. Habits take a while to change (approx 21 days so they say), so get into the habit every day or two doing a quick sweep of the floor/bed etc to put things in their place.
Make it a Morning Routine before you walk out the door
It’s a no-brainer that if you don’t find time in the morning to tidy your room you won’t be doing it when you get home at the end of the day. You’re unlikely to say to your self – “It’s six o’clock and even though I’ll be going to be in a matter of hours I may as well make the bed anyway.” Not! If you make the effort in the morning it is worth it, to come home to a space looking it’s best and that is warm and inviting to enter into.
Special place for your possessions
Kids and adults alike store most of their treasured possessions in their bedroom, so making the effort to have a nice home for them should be a priority. There are plenty of easy Do it Yourself shelving/storage options these days that can give a plain room an instant make-over.
Cull regularly
As with any room in the house we need to regularly go through our bedroom possession to ascertain what can go and what is allowed to stay. Some things will obviously be thrown out, while others can be given away. Some things however may need to be held onto for a while longer but can be moved to a garage or attic until they are no longer needed.
Tidy tidy tidy
The difference to a room is enormous when the bed is properly made – including the decorative throw and pillows in place; when the curtains are opened fully; some fresh air is let in regularly to move on stale air; giving it a quick vacuum; wiping any mirrors down; changing the sheets regularly – not only for cleanliness but for the freshly cleaned sheet smell and feel on your skin and clearing off the bedside table with only necessities.
Utilize under the bed for storage if you need to
Just make sure it can be hidden from view, making sure none pokes out!
Sort the clothes drawers
Find partners to socks and fold them together for quick and easy use. Toss socks you can’t find a partner to or ones that are beyond repair – same with any underwear that has seen better days.
Hang and fold
We spend good money on clothes then often hang them on budget hangers without proper care. Take pride in your clothes – they will last longer and feel better on if they come from a place of ‘order’, rather than the floor or the back of the wardrobe all creased and ill fitting.
Bin ahoy
A small stylish bin is often handy to keep in your bedroom – as long as you empty it regularly! Or it’s better not to have it there.
